Info pertaining to our skids:
Mounting
Our skid plates try to use as many of the factory mounting locations as possible. In general, we only add one additional brackets. Our bracket generally mounts in between the frame rails, between the A-Arms. Keep this in mind in case you have some frame stiffeners welded in this area.
Brackets
Our brackets are made from the same material as the skid, just a little thicker. There is a threaded insert in the bracket, so you don't have to worry about stripping weak threads in plastic.
Side Bends
We originally designed our skids to wrap around the frames in certain areas, to serve as a bit of a roost guard for the engine. What we found though, is that we cannot accomodate all the many different kinds of nerf bar mounting configurations. As much as we could, we have tried to make our skids "universal".
In some cases, that means there are no side "wings". (Honda's for example). The KTM and the Yamaha do have a small side wing.
If you find that the wings on our skid plate interfere with something aftermarket on your quad:
1) You can cut the wings off with a saw (jigsaw works well).
2) Let us know, so that we can try to revise our designs.
Front Bends
We usually put a 45 degree bend on the nose of the skid plate. We have no way of knowing what kind of bumper you are running, so we are making the skids to accept the factory bumper.
Most aftermarket bumpers are now adding a small wrap-around on the bottom side of the frame. With most of these, our skid plate can be tucked in to the small gap that is created.
To do this, you need to use a saw (jigsaw works well) to cut off the bent nose piece
If your aftermarket bumper doesn't have this lip, we recommend cutting off only what is needed for clearance, and retaining as much of the bend as possible.
Bolts
We provide bolts for our additional brackets. We are trying to allow you to re-use all of the existing bolts as much as possible. In some cases this is not possible, so we will try to supply you with replacement bolts.
Oil Drain Holes
Our first skid plate (the Yamaha) comes with oil drain access holes.
We figured most people would want them, turns our we were wrong! So, all the other skids we sell do NOT have the oil drain access hole.
If you want to add one, go ahead. Easy ways are to use a 1" hole saw or a 1" paddle bit.
Final Note about Modifications
Although our material is pretty easy to work with, and you can modify them to your hearts content,
WE CANNOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR DAMAGE CREATED AS A RESULT OF YOUR MODIFICATIONS!
We test our products exactly as we sell them - so if you decide to put a 4" hole in the bottom of the skid and it breaks , we cannot take responsibility.
The modifications above can easily be done using the right tools and techniques. If you have any concerns about performing adjustments on your own, let us know before ordering and we will see what we can do!
